What is a normal night time sleep pattern for a 6 week old? Isabel is all over the place. One night she'll sleep 6 hours then another 2 or 3. Then another night she'll sleep 3 hrs then another 3 then 1. And it never fails that she's up around 6am. Even if she went back down at 5:30 with a full stomach! (It's not the daylight because she has black out curtains in her room.)

I think that is pretty normal. Do you ever let her sleep with you? There is no way my babies would have slept longer than that in their crib. Ozlynn didn't start sleeping even half the night in her crib until she was 6 months old. Don't worry, this phase will go by fast :)
I'm with Hollie. I think it takes 2-3 months for a real schedule to be established.
I really think it depends on the babies personality. Cambree was sleeping through the night by then and Mason would wake up once during the middle of the night and there was no schedule to when. Sometimes it was after only being asleep an hour and sometimes it was after sleeping 8 hours.
In response to your question: we did the schedule thing from the get go so there were very few times we had to let him cry. I would just go off my instincts if he was crying of whether he needed me or not. sometimes he needed comfort and others he needed to fuss to get out energy before sleep (which is normal). The book is about developing a schedule but one that is flexible, not strict. The earlier you can start the process, the quicker you can establish a sleep schedule. The first couple of days can be tough but it totally pays off- much happier baby when they sleep well.
She needs a job, then she will be so tired by the end of the day that she will crash on the couch until morning. It works for me.
on a different topic, the word verification thing asked me to type in "gaylimp"; interesting.
Awww, Iam sorry. She and you will get through it. I wont give you any advice, cause Iam a totally wuss, I never let the kids cry it out. They all slept in our bed at some point.
There is a really good book, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby" Its about sleep training your baby. It has some great tricks. Good Luck!
Hang in there, you're probably at the turning point now. In a short while both you and she will be getting enough sleep, and then the world will take on a completely different shape. Or, you could bring her to Nebraska, and by the time we got done admiring her you would have slept for a week--
