Birth Story

Isabel FINALLY let us put her down to sleep!  Such a HUGE step for her!!  So thought I'd take this time to write about her birthday.  I'm gonna have to type this fast, doubt her sleep will last long.

I went to the doctors on Monday the 29th and decided to set a date to be induced, which was March 31st.  I was hesitant at first to get induced since I was still only a 1 but my doctor told me I'd only be put on pitocin, not cervidel, so I agreed.  Plus we felt like there's really no reason to go over, she'd just get bigger and bigger.  We went to the hospital at 7:00am on the 31st and were in our room at 7:30am.  My doctor showed up at 8am, broke my water and started the pitocin.  Within 10 minutes I started feeling the contractions and they kept on building!  It got painful pretty fast and I was sure I was at least a 3, turns out I was barely a 2....Since I knew I wanted an epideral I figured why go through any pain =) so I got one at 3, guess I'm quite the wuss.  The epidural went more on my left side so I could feel the contractions on my right, they had me turn on my right but that didn't help so they increased the dose.  They wanted to route me so once I turned on my left side I could start feeling the contractions on my right again, so they uped the dose again and I just stayed on my right.  Once it kicked in I was heaven!!  Time actually went pretty fast, we just hung out in the room watching tv.  I was in and out of sleep.  At 1pm I was a 6 and at 4pm I was a 10!  They barely had to use any pitocin, all it took was breaking my water.  Doctor didn't show until about 5:30pm, I pushed for about 55mins and out came Izzy!!  It was an amazing experience!  We had always talked about what we thought she'd look like so it was so exciting to finally see her.  We still don't know who she looks like but it is still too early.  I've found pictures of friends newborn babys on facebook that look just like Izzy so maybe in a few more weeks she'll start to look like one of us, we think she's leaning more towards Cameron though.  Labor was actually a nice experience, no complaints cause I couldn't feel a thing =)  Recovery is diffinitely harder.  We got to go home April 2nd, Camerons birthday!!  We can't believe how much we already love Isabel and can't stop staring at her!

I was taken by surprise at how hard it is to have a newborn.  I had no idea.  She's a good baby overall but has to be held 24/7.  I'd sit up all night just holding her getting 0 sleep.  Then Cameron would wake up at 5-6am and relieve me so I could get in a few hours of sleep.  Luckily each day is getting easier.  We're finding a few tricks here and there that are working.  Last night I decided to lay down with her in my arms and sleep that way.  Kind of a scary thing to do but totally worth it cause I got in 5 hours last night!  It does make me nervous because of suffication so we're gonna keep trying different things.  We are open to any advice!
I'm hoping to get pictures of her sometime this week-wish me luck because I don't know if she'll let me put her down asleep to take them.  Cameron has been amazing with her and me and helps out so so much.  I don't know what I'd do without him.  I'm dreading the day he goes back to work.
Things are going good though and we feel so blessed to have her in our lives.  We are so smitten by her!

Glad it went so well! The first 2-3 weeks are the hardest learning curve. You have to get to know their little personalities and what works for you and them. :) I definitly recommend the miracle blanket (it's a swaddling blanket that doesn't let thier arms out...kinda like a straight jacket :)or a tight swaddle. that helped my boys sleep SOOO much better. And they both loved thier binky right away! That's all I got. Good luck!!

Glad you got some sleep! It can be rough the first couple of weeks. That's nice Cameron can be home with you though. She looks so much like Cameron! The first pic. I saw of her I thought, "it's a little miniture cameron" (girl version of course). She is so cute. I hope we can make it up there to see you guys.

I loved reading your birth story. I'm glad that everything went well for you! Isn't it crazy how you fall in love with them instantly? It's a huge adjustment being a new parent, but give it time and you'll become a pro :). It definitely makes you appreciate and love your parents even more when you become a parent yourself.

Thanks for taking from your precious "me" time to write your birth story. Glad everything went well. I was on the phone with Marie and she kept getting text messages about how the labor was progressing. Good job, Kelda! It definitely takes both parents to figure out the newborn stuff. You guys are going to be absolutely fine. As soon as you feel up to it, I would suggest going on walks with the stroller-- not only is it great to get out of the house, but the fresh air and movement usually calms them down and makes them tired!
